We shipped a Chrome extension. AgentFix Scanner is now live on the Chrome Web Store: right-click any page and get an AI-readiness grade in one click. No form. No paste. No context switch.

This post is a short tour: what it does, who it is for, how it compares to the web scanner at agentfix.pro, and where the free tier ends.

What it does

Open any page. Click the AgentFix Scanner icon (or right-click, choose "Grade this page"). Within a couple of seconds the extension does what the web scanner at agentfix.pro does: fetches the page, probes the well-known paths, parses the head, inspects JSON-LD, checks robots.txt and llms.txt, and returns a letter grade with a per-signal breakdown.

The badge on the toolbar shows a live grade (A / B / C / D / F) for the current tab. The side panel shows every one of the 33 signals: which passed, which failed, which are missing outright, and one-line fix hints so you know what to do next.

Three ways teams use it

We watched how the first hundred installs actually used the extension. Three patterns dominate.

  1. Owner check. You run a site. You shipped an llms.txt last month, added a JSON-LD block, opened robots.txt to GPTBot. Question: did any of it land? Open your homepage, click the icon, get an honest grade. Two minutes.
  2. Competitor recon. You are pitching an AI-SEO retainer to a prospect. You walk the tab through five sites in their space and grade each one. You show up with a slide that says "three of your four competitors are still F on JSON-LD; here is what shipping it looks like." That is a real conversation opener.
  3. Client audit. Agencies pull the audit from the client's staging URL, private preview, or CMS admin route. All of those are unreachable from a public web form. The extension runs where you are logged in, so the grade reflects the real thing your client will ship.

The 33 signals under the hood

The extension shares its check engine with the web scanner. That means the same 33 signals, grouped into six buckets:

  • Discoverability. llms.txt, sitemap linkage, robots.txt sanity, canonical URLs.
  • Schema.org. Organization, WebSite, BlogPosting, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList, Open Graph, article metadata.
  • Agent protocols. MCP server card at /.well-known/mcp.json, A2A agent card, agent-skills index.
  • AI policy. Content-Signal in robots.txt, per-bot Allow/Disallow for GPTBot / ClaudeBot / PerplexityBot / Applebot / Google-Extended.
  • Content quality. Meta description, heading hierarchy, canonical clarity, alt text on hero images.
  • Browser UX. Mobile viewport, tap-target sizing, Core Web Vitals hints.

Each signal comes with a fix hint. If llms.txt is missing, the panel tells you the exact file and one path to add it. If your MCP card is empty, it links to the guide at MCP server card for your website. The goal is: you know what to ship next before you close the tab.

Extension vs web scanner: when to reach for which

We built the extension to complement the web scanner, not to replace it. Both give the same grade; they win in different moments.

  • Reach for the extension when you are already looking at a tab. You are a browsing human. You want the grade of what is in front of you. Also: pages behind a login or a preview host that no public scanner can reach.
  • Reach for the web scanner (agentfix.pro) when you want the branded PDF report, the emailed fix-pack, or the paid Pro tier which ships you generated files (llms.txt, JSON-LD blocks, MCP card, WordPress plugin key) tailored to your site. The extension grades; the web product also fixes.

Rule of thumb: extension for reading the score, web product for shipping the fix.

Free vs Pro

Free tier: 5 scans a day. Enough for personal use, occasional audits, sizing up a competitor. Pro tier lifts the daily limit and unlocks bulk mode.

  • Free. 5 scans / day. Full 33-signal breakdown. Toolbar badge. Side panel. Right-click menu.
  • Pro ($9 lifetime, one-time). Unlimited scans. Bulk-scan a clipboard list of URLs in one run. CSV export. Priority signal updates when new standards ship.

Pro is a one-time $9, not a subscription. Buy once, keep the key, paste it into extension Settings, done. The key is the same shape as the plugin licenses we ship from the web product, so if you have already paid for a scan pack at $29 or $99, the same key unlocks the extension.

Install in 30 seconds

  1. Open the Chrome Web Store listing.
  2. Click Add to Chrome. Approve the permissions prompt (we ask only for the active tab, no browsing history).
  3. Pin the AgentFix icon to the toolbar (optional but useful).
  4. Open any page. Click the icon. Read the grade.
  5. If you bought Pro: paste the license key in AgentFix Settings, hit Verify, unlimited scans unlock.

Works on Chrome, Edge, Brave, and any Chromium-based browser that reads the Chrome Web Store. Firefox is on the roadmap; we are watching install demand before we ship.
